You will serve as an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Public Works Department of Naval Facilities Engineering Command

Duties

You will install, repair, inspect, operate, maintain, and service specialized heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment systems. You will maintain and service compressed air generating, drying and oil removal equipment for pneumatic controllers and monitoring devices. You will perform modifications and tests on controls. You will calculate air flow, and the pressure temperature characteristics for different systems in order to locate and repair faulty equipment swiftly and to reduce inoperative time to minimum. You will maintain and test water treatment chemical equipment (conductivity controllers and chemical feed pumps). You will read blueprints, complex drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturing specifications and technical materials.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Confined Space Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Applicant must possess a Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification (includes completion of 608 cert exam) issued by the Environmental Protection Agency. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Interpreting instructions, specifications and blueprints to repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems; 2) Troubleshooting air conditioning and refrigeration system operations to detect component malfunctions; and 3) Installing and repairing a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. **NOTE** This information must be clearly supported in your resume.
