You will serve as an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Public Works Department of Naval Facilities Engineering Command
Duties
You will install, repair, inspect, operate, maintain, and service specialized heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment systems.
You will maintain and service compressed air generating, drying and oil removal equipment for pneumatic controllers and monitoring devices.
You will perform modifications and tests on controls.
You will calculate air flow, and the pressure temperature characteristics for different systems in order to locate and repair faulty equipment swiftly and to reduce inoperative time to minimum.
You will maintain and test water treatment chemical equipment (conductivity controllers and chemical feed pumps).
You will read blueprints, complex drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturing specifications and technical materials.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
- You must possess the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 certification exam (Universal) as a pre-qualification for this wage grade.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Confined Space Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Interpreting instructions, specifications and blueprints to repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems; 2) Troubleshooting air conditioning and refrigeration system operations to detect component malfunctions; and 3) Installing and repairing a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
