Duties
You will replace major portions of cooling units such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, floats and service files, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies.
You will interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications, and use these to install equipment or replace parts.
You will test small units and systems using compound refrigeration gauges and ammeters to locate worn and broken parts.
You will select tools based on methods and techniques to use, and install a variety of parts including major portions of assigned systems and equipment.
Requirements

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Universal EPA certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Must possess EPA 608 certification exam at the following levels: Core certification PLUS one or more of: Type 1 (Small Appliances), Type 2 (High Pressure), and/or Type 3 (Low Pressure) certification.
- Must be able to become CPR certified.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following:1) Repairing and maintaining a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and heating, ventilation and air conditioning units and systems; 2) Testing small units and systems using compound refrigeration gauges and ammeters to locate worn and broken parts; 3) Selecting and obtaining appropriate materials and replacement parts; and 4) Inspecting and observing equipment for proper operation, oil levels, cycling, overheated bearings, and unusual noises.
