You will serve as a Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) in the MRO F/A-18 Production Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER WEST, which is located at Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA.
Duties
You will work from technical drawings, directives, manuals, and other written or verbal instructions and assist equivalent and lower-graded level employees.
You will remove fixed sheet metal and composite structures from aircraft, disassemble structural and non-structural metal and composites components.
You will assess damaged parts to determine the sequence of operations necessary to affect repairs or replacements.
You will use hand or machine tools methods as appropriate to make replacements parts for aircraft structural and skin sections.
You will comply with safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
You will be required to have regular and predicable attendance, which is an essential function of this position.
You will accomplish other duties as assigned.

- This position requires near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2 and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must be able to distinguish colors and have depth perception.
- This position requires heavy lifting and carrying objects up to 45 pounds. Any weight lifted in excess of 40 pounds will not be attempted unaided.
- Tasks will be performed standing and sitting or a period of up to six hours, and at times pulling, pushing, stooping and reaching are required with moderate kneeling, bending and squatting for one to two hours.
- This position is subject to various noise levels which exceeds 85 DBA.
- You will be required to utilize personal protective equipment that commensurate with assigned work tasks.
- This position requires participation in a medical surveillance program for noise, sight and respirator.
- You may be required to travel. Must have a successful background investigation to maintain eligibility to hold this position.
- Drug testing and physical screening will be required for this position.

This job has a screen-out element, which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, and includes: 1) Performing metal repair, fabrication, planning, laying out, designing, and assembling/dissembling aircraft and aircraft components; 2) Applying knowledge of the characteristics and properties of any metals (i.e. stainless steel, magnesium, honeycomb) used in the trade; 3) Using hand and power tools, as well as precision measuring instruments; 4) Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics of items to be repaired; 5) Devising templates/patterns into shapes (i.e. rectangular, cylindrical, tapered, etc.); and 6) Using geometry, trigonometry, and other shop mathematics to design parts. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
