Job opening: SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) LEADER

You will serve as a Sheet Metal Mechanic (ACFT) Leader in the MRO Production Department, Production Lines Division of Fleet Readiness Center West at Naval Air Station Lemoore.

Duties

You will be responsible for the instruction/leading others to evaluate, plan, determine and organize economical repairs and modifications to aircraft. You will determine structural soundness and integrity of repairs and modification in order to return aircraft and aircraft subassemblies to meet document repair procedures. You will determine specific training required to make repairs, materials to use, method of repairs within standard procedures. You will work closely with the training office, materials engineering lab, and quality assurance department. You will distribute work to keep everyone in the crew productive and check work in progress and when finished to determine if proper work sequence procedures, methods, and deadlines were met.

  • Must obtain and maintain all required certification and/or license as a condition of employment.
  • You may be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE. A. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: (1) Knowledge of metal characteristics, sheet metal processing techniques, and aircraft maintenance procedures. (2) Fabricate metal repairs and modify F/A-18 aircraft sheet metal, composite structures and component parts. (3) Work with a variety of metals such as aluminum, titanium, magnesium, steel, stainless steel, and other alloys. (4) Skilled in the use of hand tools related to the metal smith trade. (5) Lead a work crew. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. B. I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including: (1) Knowledge of metal characteristics, sheet metal processing techniques, and aircraft maintenance procedures. (2) Ability to fabricate metal repairs and modify F/A-18 aircraft sheet metal, composite structures and component parts. (3) Ability to work with a variety of metals such as aluminum, titanium, magnesium, steel, stainless steel, and other alloys. (4) Skilled in the use of hand tools related to the metal smith trade. (5) Ability to lead a work crew. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. C. I have the ability to perform common tasks including: (1) Knowledge of metal characteristics, sheet metal processing techniques, and aircraft maintenance procedures. (2) Ability to fabricate metal repairs and modify F/A-18 aircraft sheet metal, composite structures and component parts. (3) Ability to work with a variety of metals such as aluminum, titanium, magnesium, steel, stainless steel, and other alloys. (4) Ability to use of hand tools related to the metal smith trade. (5) Ability to lead a work crew. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
