The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo.  This position is located in the Digitization Program Office (DPO) The DPO implements the pan-institutional Digitization Strategic Plan, managing the Smithsonian's digitization program and advising the institution on digitization for access, preservation and use. Duties

The IT Specialist (APPSW) is responsible for the 3D digitization of the Smithsonian's Collections and focuses on executing 3D digitization projects which produce and publish 3D models of Smithsonian collection objects through collaborative projects with Smithsonian Museums, cultural centers, and research centers.

Qualifications

For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. 1. In addition to the basic qualification requirement above: Experience GS-09: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience using application software, such as 3D modeling and texturing software to create 3D models. Experience GS-11: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience using advanced methods to create 3D models from 3D scan data, photogrammetry image sets and other reference material using application software such as scan-to-mesh software, photogrammetry software, 3D modeling and texturing software.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.Or Education All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Grade 09: master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Grade 11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
