Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Buffalo Field Office, Area Port of Buffalo, Budget and Logistics Branch, located in Buffalo, New York.

Duties

This position will allow you to use your expertise in administrative oversight and assistance to provide substantive support to CBP upper management. This position starts at a salary of $90,811.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $118,050.00 (GS-12, Step 10). In this Supervisory Mission Support Specialist position, you will provide complex administrative services which include but are not limited to management and information systems, budget, finance, procurement, personnel, logistics, and office equipment. Typical responsibilities will include: Providing technical and administrative supervision to the division. Establishing and carrying out specific action plans or accomplishing short term goals and objectives. Developing and prescribing procedures and techniques and furnishing policy guidance to subordinates, assigning and explaining work requirements to subordinate staff to achieve efficiency of services rendered while increasing productivity. Making decisions and resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS/CBP policy. Devising new methods or procedures for accomplishing work to solve productivity problems.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing administrative services such as management analysis, personnel management, financial management, office services and systems support Identifying ways to improve or enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of current services at the local level and provide representation for the office in dealings with vendors and organizations within the agency Providing technical and administrative support and supervision and assisting in developing and carrying out plans regarding staffing and training. Analyzing current practices to ensure the efficiency and effective productivity of the administrative operations Assisting in resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS policy NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 04/12/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
