About the Position: This position is located at Fort Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville.

Duties

Instruct and evaluate in Day/Night/Night Vision Device (NVD) modes under visual flight rules (VFR) and/or instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). Attend daily IP briefing when performing IP duties and conduct daily student briefs when directed by the commander or supervisor. Instruct and evaluate academic topics in accordance with TC 3-04.11 or current, equivalent publication(s), the aircrew catalogue of academic topics (ACAT), current Army and Aviation doctrine, and other special topics selected by the command. Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining files and records. Schedule or manage the scheduling of aircraft for students or other requirements. Monitor no-notice evaluations to assigned aviators. Develop, review, and propose revisions to assigned Programs of Instruction (POIs), Course Management Plans (CMPs), Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), and APGs as needed by the Aircrew Training Program (ATP) commander. Serve as a Mission Briefing Officer (MBO) and/or Air Mission Commander (AMC) as required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • The position requires a FAA Class I or II flight physical prior to employment. (You must upload a copy with your applicantion).
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain an annual Army Class II Flight Physical.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) implementing methods of instruction for student pilot in the LUH-72 Helicopter; (2) evaluating student pilots in all levels of development in areas such as flight maneuvers, aircraft systems and limitations, instruments flight procedures, and terrain flight; (3) operating the LUH-72 Helicopter while instructing and evaluating the student; (4) conducting classroom instruction on the systems and/or procedures of the LUH-72 Helicopter; and (5) recommending changes in lesson plans, program of instruction, training methods and techniques within the organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Certifications: This position requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating.
