A successful candidate in this position will serve as the Assistant Manager for Engineering (AMO) to provide technical expertise in day-to-day oversight and contract administration activities at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) regarding safe nuclear facility operations, facilities and project management, and environmental/NEPA activities in support of mission objectives.

Duties

As a Assistant Manager for Engineering you will: Responsible for the organization oversight, and authority for government and contractor adherence to environmental/NEPA requirements, regulations, controls, and standards while operating sites in four states. Serve as the supervisor of the environmental team, with a highly skilled technically diverse staff of five federal employees. Support the development of an effective integrated safety management program; oversee the nuclear criticality safety program. Provides operational awareness of maintenance for nuclear facilities, and for supporting long term planning of nuclear facility operations and mission/program activities. Provide oversight and and contract administration of construction project planning and execution, and Environmental Restoration projects. Serves as NNSA lead for site environmental planning, compliance, monitoring, and permitting; NEPA; and provides oversight and direction for SNL waste management, water, air, and pollution prevention programs. Serves as liaison for joint support responsibilities and intergovernmental agreements between the Department of the AF, 377th Air Base Wing and DOE elements residing within the geographical confines of Kirtland AF Base.

Qualifications

Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting at least 2 of the following: 1. Experience with demonstrated leadership of a diverse group of technical employees. 2. Experience with participation in the oversight of safe nuclear facility operations. 3. Experience with involvement of facilities and project management. 4. Education

This position has a positive education requirement. You must meet the education requirements of either the General Engineer (0801) or Physical Scientist (1301) series listed below. You MUST provide unofficial transcripts to support the education claims in your application. If selected, official transcripts will be requested.

Engineering (0801): A. Degree: To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 1) Professional registration or licensure; 2) Written Test; 3) Specified academic course; 4) Related curriculum. Physical Scientist (1301): A. Degree: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
