Duties

The Learning Game & Simulation Specialist leads the requirements analysis, modeling, design, and implementation of learning games and simulations to create immersive and effective learning experiences to develop essential skills and knowledge needed by DAU learners to excel in their roles. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Design and Develop Immersive Learning Experiences: Lead the requirements analysis, modeling, design, and development of learning games and simulations to create immersive and effective training programs. Ensure these programs develop the essential skills and knowledge needed by DAU learners, focusing on realistic scenarios relevant to acquisition challenges. Collaborate for Content Creation: Work closely with subject matter experts, instructional designers, graphic designers, 3D artists, and developers to analyze learning requirements and create interactive, engaging game-based learning experiences and simulations with appropriate fidelity. Ensure Quality and Functionality: Conduct thorough testing of all digital products to meet learning objectives and ensure seamless functionality across platforms and devices. Utilize user feedback and performance data to iteratively enhance and optimize learning games and simulations. Guide Integration of Innovative Solutions: Provide expertise and guidance on the effective integration of games, simulations, and gamification into DAU's learning solutions. Focus on enhancing learner motivation, engagement, skills retention, and transfer to the workplace. Resource Coordination and Mentorship: Develop estimates and coordinate resources for support, including personnel, equipment, and funding. Mentor and train team members in the effective use of learning games and simulations, ensuring a continual focus on the needs of the customer and adapting to the ever-changing modern learning environment. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance
  • You may be required to serve a two (2) year probationary period.
  • The incumbent of this position may be required to work overtime, irregular shifts, and/or on the weekend.
  • Work may require travel away from the normal duty station on commercial aircraft.

Qualifications

Please reference the Education section of this announcement to review the DAU Faculty Pay Band Minimum Education and Specialized Experience Requirements To qualify for this position at a respective band/grade level, you must demonstrate in your resume/application that you possess the required years of specialized experience equivalent to one band/grade-level lower (or equivalent) to include having specialized experience directly relating to the specific duties of the position, and demonstrate that you have the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully with the experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge in Specialized Experience: Requires demonstrated experience in the following areas: Learning requirements analysis, solution development, instructional design using learning games or simulations, to create or deliver adult education, or corporate training; managing or supporting the selection and implementation of learning systems; conducting job/task or other performance needs analysis; creating program or product evaluation tools or supporting program or product evaluation activities. Experience using instructional design theories, models, practices, and methodologies; determining media selection and development practices for training environments; choosing appropriate modeling, gaming and simulation technology applications for adult learning environments; evaluating learning games or simulation services, programs, and products. Experience conducting project management of learning asset development, especially learning games or simulations. Initiating the project management process, from planning through deployment. Quality Ranking Factor (job related skills, knowledge, or abilities that are expected to significantly enhance performance-but are not essential.): Experience in designing and hands-on development of game-based learning solutions, simulations, and virtual environments. Familiarity with game development engines or gaming platforms appropriate for acquisition learning. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

DAU Faculty Pay Band Minimum Education and Specialized Experience Requirements:
  • DAU Pay Band A (AD-11) (Equivalent to a GS-09 through GS-13 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band A include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree and up to four years of experience in the appropriate functional area.
  • DAU Pay Band B (AD-12) (Equivalent to a GS-14 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band B include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of six years of experience in the appropriate functional area. Advanced degrees are highly desired in Band B.
  • DAU Pay Band C (AD-13) (Equivalent to a GS-15 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
    • Basic requirements for Band C include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of eight years of experience in the appropriate functional area. Advanced degrees are highly desired in Band C.
Please note: Technical certifications and/or experience may be approved by the DAU Chief of Staff (delegated from the DAU President) to meet the needs of the University.
