Duties
The Learning Game & Simulation Specialist leads the requirements analysis, modeling, design, and implementation of learning games and simulations to create immersive and effective learning experiences to develop essential skills and knowledge needed by DAU learners to excel in their roles. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Administers, advises on, designs, develops, or curates learning solutions for training programs specific to the Acquisition Workforce.
Utilizes modeling, gaming, and simulation approaches, and associated technologies, to create realistic, scenarios that provide immersive experiences relevant to real-world acquisition challenges, allowing learners to gain, practice and apply relevant skills in a risk-free environment.
Collaborates with subject matter experts and instructional designers, to analyze learning requirements, creating learning objectives and concepts for interactive and engaging game-based learning experiences or simulations.
Collaborates with graphic designers, 3D artists, and developers to implement game or simulation concepts, with appropriate fidelity to affordably meet learning needs.
Tests and ensures quality of games and simulations, including digital products, to meet learning objectives and to function smoothly across platforms and devices.
Analyzes user feedback and performance data to iteratively enhance and optimize DAU learning games or simulations.
Provides expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams, promoting the effective integration of games, simulations, or gamification, into learning solutions where cost-effective, to enhance learner motivation, engagement, skills retention, and transfer to the workplace.
Develops estimates and coordinates with Center Director on resources for support, e.g., personnel, equipment, funding. Drafts contract work statements and estimates; oversees contract execution for game or simulation development and testing.
Mentors and trains team members in the effective use of learning games and simulations
Continually focuses on the needs of the customer and the modern learning environment that is subject to continual change (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) with respect to platforms, networks and learning asset design and delivery.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Faculty Duties:
Creates and/or delivers learning assets and content as needed, and coordinates with partner divisions that manage related curriculum, or that control DAU processes and tools.
Stays abreast of changes and trends in primary functional area, continuously researching, gaining, and sharing knowledge in federal communities of practice.
Pursues and maintains digital and data analysis fluency that align with DAU and primary functional area best practices in public and private industry.
Maintains currency in, and actively uses university technology, digital and social media platforms.
Focus on the needs of the customer in a modern learning and business environment that is subject to continual change with respect to platforms, networks, and delivery.
Serves as a thinking partner with stakeholders and customers, continuously improving product and service delivery to provide the right knowledge and service the point of need through synchronous and asynchronous methods.
Builds relationships and collaborates with peers and program management leaders from all organizations within the area of responsibility.
Elicits feedback to shape the policies, processes and procedures that produce a frictionless experience for the customers and stakeholders.

- Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance
- You may be required to serve a two (2) year probationary period.
- The incumbent of this position may be required to work overtime, irregular shifts, and/or on the weekend.
- Work may require travel away from the normal duty station on commercial aircraft.

To qualify for this position at a respective band/grade level, you must demonstrate in your resume/application that you possess the required years of specialized experience equivalent to one band/grade-level lower (or equivalent) to include having specialized experience directly relating to the specific duties of the position, and demonstrate that you have the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully with the experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge in Specialized Experience:
Requires demonstrated experience in the following areas:
Learning requirements analysis, solution development, instructional design using learning games or simulations, to create or deliver adult education, or corporate training; managing or supporting the selection and implementation of learning systems; conducting job/task or other performance needs analysis; creating program or product evaluation tools, or supporting program or product evaluation activities.
Experience using instructional design theories, models, practices, and methodologies; determining media selection and development practices for training environments; choosing appropriate modeling, gaming and simulation technology applications for adult learning environments; evaluating learning games or simulation services, programs, and products.
Experience conducting project management of learning asset development, especially learning games or simulations. Initiating the project management process, from planning through deployment.
Quality Ranking Factor:
Experience in designing and hands-on development of game-based learning solutions, simulations, and virtual environments. Familiarity with game development engines or gaming platforms appropriate for acquisition learning.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
DAU Faculty Pay Band Minimum Education and Specialized Experience Requirements:
- DAU Pay Band A (AD-11) (Equivalent to a GS-09 through GS-13 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
- Basic requirements for Band A include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree and up to four years of experience in the appropriate functional area.
- DAU Pay Band B (AD-12) (Equivalent to a GS-14 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
- Basic requirements for Band B include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of six years of experience in the appropriate functional area. Advanced degrees are highly desired in Band B.
- DAU Pay Band C (AD-13) (Equivalent to a GS-15 General Schedule grade equivalency): Minimum Education and Specialized Experience:
- Basic requirements for Band C include a minimum of a Bachelor level degree in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of eight years of experience in the appropriate functional area. Advanced degrees are highly desired in Band C.
