This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Deputy Command for Misson Support, Director of Operational Logistics, Office of Base Operational (DOL-3), Base National Capital Region, Washington, DC.

Duties

You will serve as a Educational Technician providing a normal range of lead caregiver functions and will report to the Director of the Child Development Center (CDC).

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Employees are required to obtain mandatory vaccinations.
  • This position requires a Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries.
  • Must obtain a pre-employment physical and follow up physicals.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-05: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lowest grade level (GS-04 level) in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized Experience includes: Participating in childhood training programs, courses, conferences, and documenting development of children in the program. Caring for children in a childcare setting. Knowledge of and/or familiarity with early childhood development plans. Conducting parent/caregiver conferences. Providing specialized developmental care and instruction for children in a childcare setting. OR Education:  4 years of education above high school.  Successfully completed education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
