About the Position: Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) mission statement: To receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components to meet contingency requirements in support of the warfighter.
Duties
Receives daily work schedule from materials handler leader, (WL-6907-08), then assumes control of a work crew, directing explosives handlers in identifying, segregating, inventorying, and storing ammunition, ammunition components, and commodities.
With the implementation of Automated Identification Technology (AIT), uses/operates bar code scanning equipment and understands how scanned information is used in daily operations for shipments and receipts.
Provides technical guidance to crew member on storage functions for all types of ammunition and components in accordance with applicable specifications.
Records car and truck seal numbers and receipt or issue of material on magazine data cards, changing and/or completing all documents to accurately reflect material received or issued.
Prepares itemized lists of ammunition, components, and details received or shipped.
Compares receipt/issue documents to items shipped or stored to ensure only correct items are moved and the accountable record accurately reflect material issued or received.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
- Position requires ability to drive on the installation. Installation driving privileges are automatically granted unless suspended or revoked.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain explosives certification.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
- Must be able to be respirator certified without restrictions.
- Position requires incumbent employee to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Pre-employment physical required as a condition of employment, prior to appointment, reassignment, or transfer, prior to reporting for duty. Subsequent annual physicals are required.
- Position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019
- (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Critical under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program) and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- Civilian Personnel of the Department of Defense are not exempt from this provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, selectee will be required to sign a form acknowledging understanding of this provision.
- Position requires temporary duty (TDY) business travel approximately 10% of the time.

Physical Effort: Physical demands are arduous. At times, it is necessary to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Kneeling, standing, bending, and working in awkward positions are necessary at times. Good color vision is necessary for proper identification of different types of ammunition. Must be physically fit in order to possess an explosives driver's license.
Working Conditions: Working conditions vary with type of assignment and are performed both indoors and outside. Work is routinely performed in unheated and poorly illuminated magazines and warehouses. Exposed to natural ambient environments of heat, cold, dirt, dust, rain, ice, and snow. Work is routinely performed in remote/isolated areas. HAZARDS: Exposed to danger of explosion and fire while working with explosives, chemicals, fuels, loaded pyrotechnics, and deteriorated or damaged explosive ordnance items. Work is routinely performed in remote/isolated areas. Exposed to hazards involved with working outdoors (e.g., bee stings, snakebites).
