About the Position: Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) mission statement: To receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components to meet contingency requirements in support of the warfighter. This position is Temp NTE 1 yr; May be ext up to 5 years; May be made permanent.

Duties

Check work in progress for compliance with supervisor's instructions and provide information to supervisor on status and process of work and overall work operations. Instruct subordinates in proper work methods. Prepare material for shipment and receipt. Ensure materials are available. Trains subordinates.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Position requires ability to drive on the installation. Installation driving privileges are automatically granted unless suspended or revoked.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Qualifications

If you are a current Army employee, this position will be filled from employees eligible for temporary promotion, temporary change to lower grade, or temporary reassignment. The position is temporary not-to-exceed 1 year and may be extended up to the maximum time of 5 years. This position is temporary and may be made permanent for current Army employees only. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead or supervise as a Materials Handler Leader. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further. The work of the position normally includes: I can train others how to use and handle a variety of hazardous materials such as ammunition; distribute workload to keep crew working; interpret and communicate instructions from the supervisor; check subordinates work in progress and providing feedback as necessary; OR identify discrepant or damaged stock through visual inspection; and ensure light boxes are painted and/or stenciled properly. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Physical demands are arduous. At times, it is necessary to lift items weighing up to 85 pounds. Kneeling, standing, bending and working in awkward positions is necessary at times. Good color vision is necessary for proper identification of different types of ammunition. Must be physically fit to have an explosives driver's license. Incumbent must be able to pass the physical required by the host NSWCC Medical Department and possess a medical certificate. Explosives certification is required. Working Conditions: Working conditions vary with type of assignment and are performed both indoors and out. Work is routinely performed in unheated and poorly illuminated magazines and warehouses. The incumbent will be exposed to the natural ambient environments of heat, cold, dirt, dust, rain, ice, and snow. Work is routinely performed in remote/isolated areas. The incumbent will be exposed to danger of explosion and fire while working with explosives, chemicals, fuels, loaded pyrotechnics, and deteriorated or damaged explosive ordnance items. Work is routinely performed in remote/isolated areas. Incumbent will be exposed to hazards involved with working outdoors to include bee stings and snakebites.
