This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible for analysis and expertise that supports joint planning, risk evaluation, and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff program and budget recommendations to the Secretary of Defense, the primary portfolios including development of the National Military Strategy, Unified Command Plan, and the Joint Strategic Planning System.
Duties
As a STRATEGIC ANALYST (NATIONAL MILITARY STRATEGY) at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Influences, develops, supports, builds coalitions, and employs analytical frameworks and methodologies.
Translates and refines the National Security Strategy into broad military guidance for military planning.
Coordinates with National Security Council Staff and Office of the Secretary of Defense Staff.
Conducts analysis focused on changing policies and/or trends indicated by POTUS or SecDef.
Prepares same key personnel for participation in meetings with senior leaders.
Develops statutory and other Congressional reports to include requested briefings to House and Senate Armed Service Committees.

Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-14 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
Subject matter expert regarding extent national-level security strategies to include Department of Defense, combatant command, Joint Staff and Chairman Title X responsibilities;
Developing the guidance for or participating in, the planning and development of campaign and contingency plans, theater or functional posture;
Expert assisting in the development of Joint Staff positions and preparation of Congressional testimony and reports;
Facilitating global planning and coordinating large scale meetings with senior level staff where discussion takes place regarding campaign and contingency plans, theater or functional posture, or interagency political/military planning.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
