As the Supervisor and first line authority figure, this position has authoritative oversight over Admissions Support Unit, Health Benefits Section and is responsible for the intake and administrative processing of any patient applying for medical service to this Medical Center or to any of its Satellite and Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
Duties
Provides management assistance regarding registration, eligibility, and admissions for the facility and CBOCs.
Oversees patients' electronic medical and administrative records.
Has delegated full authority and responsibility for planning and organizing the flow and methods of work for the Admissions Support Unit.
Serves as Acting Supervisory of entire Health Benefits Section in the absence of the Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist.
Investigates and develops facts, conclusions, and recommendation in those matters requiring investigation that come within the jurisdiction of the Admissions Support Unit, Health Benefits Section and Patient Support Business Services.
Responsible for management of budgetary requirements for application programs and develops budgetary projects for Admissions Support Unit as necessary.
Provides orientation and technical training to new employees of the unit.
Keeps track of employees scheduled for leave, training classes, cross-training, 5-tier performance appraisal quality assurance error rate monitors, etc., assuring that all areas of Admission Support Unit are adequately covered and that available personnel are utilized as needed.
Obtains information on changes in Public Laws, VA Regulations and actions which could affect an individual's status or eligibility for benefits an informs them of heir responsibility for reporting these changes.
Performs a variety of duties to carry out work concerned with assuring quality of work transaction to carry out health care programs and functions.
Monitors work processes to prevent ineffective work practices and to verify adherence to plans and requirements of the unit.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/10/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-9 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Provides management assistance regarding registration, eligibility, and admissions for the facility and CBOCs; exercises control and having responsibility for projects, questions, or problems associated with determining eligibility; patient processing or admission activities for the facility; coordinate patient processing activities; reviews patient's electronic records and administrative records for compliance OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., or LL.M., if related.

Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary. Typically, employee sits comfortably to do the work but there may be some walking, standing, bending and lifting. Requires constant viewing of computer. Walking to various locations of the hospital may be necessary to alleviate problems and retrieve necessary supplies.
