This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as a Park Ranger assisting the ranger staff with the routine day-to-day duties required to operate and maintain the recreational facility to which the employee is assigned.
Duties
Provide routine visitor assistance such as: answering visitor's questions; giving directions; explaining common park rules; collecting recreational use fees; and assisting higher graded rangers control vehicular traffic.
Assist higher graded Park Rangers in the development, presentation, and maintenance of interpretive programs.
Assist higher graded Park Rangers in completing resource management projects, such as: planting and/or watering trees; building signs; patrolling camp sites; and working as part of a crew engaged in project maintenance.
Assist higher graded Park Rangers with administrative duties by: checking progress and completion of routine service contractor's work (e.g., janitorial) and reporting findings; and utilizing a personal computer to enter and retrieve data.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Possession of or the ability to acquire a state driver's license.
- Required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in regulation ER-1130-2-422, dated 01 OCT 1991.
- Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project to which the employee is assigned.
- Incumbent must receive a minimum of 24 hours of personal protection/unarmed self-defense, situational evaluation, and tactical communication training within two years of employment.
- Incumbent must possess or be able to acquire first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and blood-borne pathogen training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work as qualifying as long as the experience provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND three months of specialized experience which includes experience in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work as qualifying with specific examples such as park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations.
OR
Education: One year of education above the high school level with six semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 9. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages. You must include your transcripts.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
