This position is located in the Manufacturing Department, Production Division, Coining Section, Die Polishing Branch. As a Die Finishing Specialist, you will set up, operate and maintain a number of automated machine tools to auto-polish dies in the production of proof coins.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the WG-10. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As a Die Finishing Specialist, you will:
Use computer controlled automated polishers to polish dies.
Perform all set up programming operations using control panels on computer controlled automated polishers.
Use laser engraving frosting operations and visually inspect, analyze, evaluate, examine and interpret die conditions and dimensions that require in-depth examinations and the application of required specifications to determine acceptability and ensure that images (i.e., letters, numbers and artistic features) are not damaged and conform to mandatory, standard, specifications.
Perform laser engraving equipment calibrations on a weekly basis; camera calibrations as well as camera to laser field calibrations.
Work with the Particle Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating software to perform the correct steps to start the program; change the chemical concentrations for coating purposes; interpret the data that is presented; and carry out correct actions based upon available information.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.
