This position is located at US Mint,San Francisco Mint-MANUFACTURING DEPT/San Francisco. The purpose of this position is to set up, operate and maintain a number of automated machine tools to auto-polish dies in the production of proof coins. This position may be responsible for performing manual buffer and polisher duties and responsibilities a small percentage of the time.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the WG-10. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Use computer controlled automated polishers to polish dies. Specifically, the incumbent performs state-of-the-art auto-polishing dies to produce proof coins.
Perform all set up programming operations using control panels on computer controlled automated polishers. Input tooling measurements and ensures that all parameters are set correctly to prevent damage to the equipment. Measure dies and programs controllers to compensate and ensure that specific requirements are met. Ensure dimensional accuracy of dies by utilizing precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and veneer calipers.
Inspect dies for lack of detail and defects before and after the auto-polishing procedure is completed. Set all defected dies aside and ensures that defects are identified.
Maintain manual die polishing equipment parameters. Maintain production inventory records for operations as required. Complete paperwork using a manual tracking system. Return dies to the Die Vault Attendant or processes dies using laser frosting operations.
