About the Position: You will serve as Senior Survey Technician and Survey Database Manager in the River Engineering Section. You will be required to collect survey data and utilize their technical expertise to QA/QC surveys, troubleshoot data errors, provide recommendations for resolution, ensure surveys are published to the correct database within the required timeframe, archived with proper metadata and files, and named correctly.
Duties
Ensure adherence to safety guidance for watercraft operation and maintenance.
Complete hydrographic surveys of revetments and river training structures utilizing single beam, multibeam, side-scan, LiDAR, ADCP, discharge and other high precision survey data
Review completed work from other technicians and offers corrective guidance when errors are detected.
Convert existing hydrographic surveys into digital format for uploading into the proper database.
Translate data between different software formats.
Produce maps, charts, drawings, and documents for various groups to be used in planning, design, construction, emergency response, and permitting activities.
Collect and process single beam, multibeam, side-scan, LiDAR, ADCP, discharge and other high precision survey data.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time.
- This position requires a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles or incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- Must possess and maintain a valid USACE boat operator’s license within 6 months of employment to operates government-owned vessels as required.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examination to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The work requires physical demands such as prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, crouching, stretching and other physical movements.
- This position is covered by the DOT rules and USACE ER 690-1-1218. May be subject to random alcohol and drug testing on an unannounced basis.
- Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412,“Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing”.
- This position is required to complete CPR Safety training.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) collecting and processing single beam, multibeam, side-scan, LiDAR, Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, discharge and other high precision survey data on large rivers; 2) coordinates with project engineers and managers to determine the best application of survey principles and procedures for data collection and presentation; and 3) utilize software such as or similar to HYPACK/HYSWEEP Hydrographic Surveying Software, R2Sonic Sonar Data Acquisition, Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, Geographic Information System, Applinax POS MV Differential Global Positioning System, LiDAR, and other software technology. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
