The primary purpose of this position is to provide developmental experience designed to broaden the skills and/or enhance the leadership perspective of an identified high-potential, mid-level manager/executive; it is not a continuing position, assignment duration is limited to 36 months.
Duties
DUTY 1
Performs Career Broadening assignments/duties. Applies the full range of Financial Management (budget, cost, accounting/finance, etc.) in planning developing and managing course curricula for the Defense Financial Management & Comptroller School courses.
DUTY 2
In a Career Broadening capacity, prepares lessons and presents materials or coordinates for SME presentation of a variety of financial management topics.
DUTY 3
Facilitates and leads discussions and exercises on various financial management and leadership subjects.
DUTY 4
As a Career Broadener, conducts special projects and studies, as assigned by the school Director which have far-reaching impact on the DFM&CS, faculty and students. Serves as a key person for curriculum issues concerning assigned financial management area of responsibility.

- The work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance

- TEMPORARY PROMOTION: If the position is filled as a temporary promotion, upon completion of the career broadening assignment, the temporary promotion may lead to permanent promotion without further competition
- Employee may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties.
- Position has significant requirements for work outside normal duty hours, including attendance at student social functions, hosting guest speakers, travel to conferences and mobile training locations, and working with students on special projects.
- Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
- Employee must maintain current certifications
- Employee shall comply with the requirements of the Financial Management Level 2 certification program within 2 years of assignment and maintain currency at the certification level 2.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Comprehensive knowledge of financial management program policies, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of budget and cost functions, interrelated activities and statutory and regulatory requirements of a wide variety of DoD and Air Force activities.
Skill and ability to comprehend Public Law, DoD and Air Force directives.
Skill and ability to gather facts and use effective; analytical, and evaluative methods to accurately assess information and make sound problem solving decisions.
Ability to prepare special studies and staff reports including the ability to meet emergency and/or changing program requirements within available resources and with minimum sacrifice of quality or quantity of work.
Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions relating to work,.
