Duties
Serves as a voice System Administrator in the Fire and Aviation Information Technology Operations Section, which is the installation focal point for voice and data communications at the National Interagency Fire Center.
Voice over IP (VoIP) hardware and software administration.
Serves as a Network Specialist delivering network and customer support.
Evaluates network software, hardware, bandwidth and communications link, specifications and installation.
Works with BLM IT counterparts to administer VoIP services across the enterprise.

Qualifications

You must one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include the following: assisting with systems integration, performance tuning, testing and evaluation procedures, understanding of IT security principles and methods, and an understanding of project management principles and methods sufficient to plan and coordinate the installation of new products or equipment; knowledge of configuration management methods and techniques for integrating information system components sufficient to install and maintain software and hardware, optimize functionality of systems, and diagnose and recover failed system; knowledge of methods, principles, and practices covering troubleshooting of complex computer system failures, recovery of systems, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to include hardware and software components; knowledge of methods and practices involved in the integration of system components sufficient to optimize system performance; knowledge of new or revised policies, practices, and technical management guidelines to provide advisory services, consultation, technical assistance, and training. AND Information Technology (IT)-related experience demonstrating each of the following competencies:
(1) Attention to Detail - is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail;
(2) Customer Service - works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services;
(3) Oral Communication - expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; and
(4) Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendation.
OR have a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree. The degree must be in: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (Note: You must provide a copy of transcripts.)
OR have 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. The degree must be in: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
