Duties

The Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) works to promote safety, protect the environment, and conserve resources offshore through vigorous regulatory oversight and enforcement. For information about our bureau go to: http://www.bsee.gov/ This position is being advertised as both location negotiable after selection and with a duty station of Washington, DC with the option of telework. If applying to "negotiable after selection", this means that your duty station will be based off your home address and you will be a full-time remote worker. If applying to a specific duty station, you may be allowed to telework a set number of day(s) per pay period, with supervisory approval". At the full performance level GS-4 the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Assist with tracking policy developments across the department, ensuring consistency, monitoring implementation, and updating the Deputy Chief of Staff. Attend briefings, stakeholder meetings, and similar events with senior staff. Assist with conducting research, and other written work products as assigned, research and provide policy recommendations on relevant issues. Support senior staff on developing policy, guidance, procedures and practices that enhance the Department's efforts on climate and environmental justice. Compile information to assist staff with drafting policy, guidance, procedures and practices that enhance the Department's efforts on climate and environmental justice. Strengthen coordination and cooperation within the Department and with external groups to identify partnership and other opportunities to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Perform a variety of administrative support duties, which may be sensitive in nature for the Office of the Secretary Deputy Chief of Staff and other senior level leadership and staff. Support the Secretary's briefing books operations, including reviewing materials and providing opportunities to learn about the multiple priorities of the dept - resource intensive. Salary Information: GS-4: $40,351 - $52,452 per annum (Washington, DC) $30,280 - $39,361 per annum (Remote Location) *This is the base GS salary rate. Pay will be set according to selectee's geographic area. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. To qualify for this position you must meet the (1) Pathways Internship Eligibility Requirements and (2) the Minimum Qualifications Requirements defined below. To be eligible for this internship all of the following requirements must be met: 1. You must be at least 16 years of age 2. You must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree or certificate program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or part-time basis. 3. If enrolled, you must be in good academic standing (At least a 2.0 GPA) 4. You must provide a transcript (official or unofficial) and proof of enrollment/acceptance. NOTE: You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program. GS-04 Qualification Requirements: To qualify for the GS-04 grade level you must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS AND PROOF OF ENROLLMENT. FAILURE TO PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. This is an opportunity under the Internship Program component of the Pathways Program. The Internship Program provides students enrolled in qualifying educational institutions with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while concurrently being enrolled. Veteran's Preference is applicable under the Pathways Program. The United States Department of the Interior will announce Pathways Internship opportunities multiple times per year, with regard to demand. To be considered for other Internship opportunities at the U.S. Department of the Interior, applicants must apply each time a new announcement is posted. The Work Schedule of the appointee will be based on availability, which in part will be influenced by the appointees' academic course load. Appointment types may vary from indefinite to temporary (generally, temporary appointments do not exceed one year, however the agency does reserve the right to extend temporary appointments beyond the not to exceed date of the initial appointment). Interns will be required to sign an agreement that outlines the parameters of the Internship Program during employment with the U.S. Department of the Interior. Additionally, in order to remain a part of the Internship Program Appointees must: Maintain a cumulative grade point average (G.P.A) of at least 2.0, whereby, the accredited educational institution must recognize the Appointee is in "Good Academic Standing", The Appointee must be enrolled at least on a half-time or full-time basis throughout their appointment.
