Duties
As a Nurse Specialist (Research) your duties will include but, are not limited to the following:
Performing clinical trials duties in accordance with standards of nursing practice and the Code of Ethics and maintaining awareness of what constitutes falsification of data or other research misconduct.
Coordinating and implementing clinical research protocols.
Educating and counseling patients participating in clinical trials.
Working closely with a diverse team of health care providers to provide patient care and conduct clinical research.
Facilitating patient recruitment and enrollment into on-going clinical trials.
Ensuring compliance with protocol and regulatory requirements.
Managing clinical research data and providing data quality assurance.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse Specialist (Research), GS-0610, you must:
Have a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. Note: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND
Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). AND
Have a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional Qualification Requirements: In addition to the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must meet the Additional Qualification Requirement listed below for each grade level:
GS-11:
In addition to the basic education and licensure requirements,in order to qualify for the Nurse Specialist (Research) position you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) yearof qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Assisting in the delivery of comprehensive nursing care to a specific population of patients in a healthcare setting; Assessing, planning, performing and evaluating the delivery of patient care in a clinical research facility; Coordinating and initiating internal and external referral and the multidisciplinary care of research; AND Possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
GS-12:
In addition to the basic education and licensure requirements,in order to qualify for the Nurse Specialist (Research) position you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) yearof qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Providing ongoing education and counseling to clinical staff on patient care units related to all aspects of the protocol; Overseeing phases of data management to include data collection, entry, validation, reporting and analysis; Researching trends and science to develop new approaches to patient care; Providing patient and family counseling, health education, and serving as a patient advocate; AND Evaluating study eligibility and baseline measurements of study parameters.
