Duties
This position uses your knowledge and experience performing assignments and providing advice, assistance and guidance to employees at all level on a variety of complex issues.
This position starts at a salary of $86,962.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $113,047.00 (GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $113,047.00 (GS-12 Step 10).

The Mission Support Specialist provides support and guidance on a variety of mission support processes including budget, procurement, personnel, telecommunications, hiring and staffing, logistics records management, training, travel and property. Duties and responsibilities include:
Locally manages the badge and credential needs of employees in the assigned AOR. Serves as the primary point of contact for correspondence, requests, and actions with the Badge and Credential Office. Maintains accurate records and transfers of all badges and credentials within their AOR. Ships/receives Badges and credentials and coordinates issuance/turn-in with employees, physically and in applicable systems. Signs employee CBP Form 241s upon receipt of issued Badges/credentials to support out-processing. Maintains appropriate physical control of all items in their possession.
Independently performs assignments and provides advice, assistance, and guidance to supervisors, managers, and employees on a variety of complex and sensitive administrative provide support and guidance on a variety of mission support processes including budget, procurement, personnel, telecommunications, hiring and staffing, logistics (fleet and facilities), records management, training, travel, and property.
Serves as a purchase cardholder, creates purchase card purchase orders, reconciles purchase card statements, accepts goods and services in SAP, purchases office supplies and equipment within the budget plan, compiles bids from vendors prior to purchase, and pays recurring monthly invoices.
Serves as the Local Property Officer and is responsible for physical inventory, assigning inventory to inventory takers, performing inventory, reconciling inventory results from the inventory taker, certifying inventory results, and closing inventory.
Advises and provides guidance to employees on a multitude of personnel and payroll questions. Identifies and further directs employees to appropriate groups if the incumbent is not able to answer the employee's questions. Creates documentation needed for internal promotion, grievance payroll and personnel actions.
Qualifications
Experience:
You qualify for the GS-1 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Assisting lead mission support specialist with asset management, including budgeting, purchase card, and vehicle management in the local Area of Responsibility.
Maintaining and reviewing Continuity of Operations, Occupant Emergency Plan, and hazardous material plan in concert with management and representing office with local safety officer and building safety committees.
Maintaining filing systems, controls storage, arrangement, access to and use of files, and disposing records based on retention schedule including confidential investigation files.

Education Substitution: There is no education substitution at the GS-12 grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 04/04/2024.

Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
