This position is part of the Air Force Elements, U.S. Transportation Command, Transportation Command. The incumbent will be responsible for ** Serves as a data scientist, performing various duties associated with the application of, or research into, computer science methods and techniques to store, manipulate, transform, or present information.
Duties
This position is being filled under AcqDemo Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) for non-acquisition positions involving 51% or more of time in direct support of acquisition positions within Business and Technical Management Professional Career path.
As a COMPUTER SCIENTIST at the NH-1550-3 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Directs the development of advanced concepts of automation and information processing display, control, and transfer.
Orchestrates development of software systems using knowledge of techniques, procedures, and processes such as operating system theory, data structures, computer system architecture, software engineering, and computer communications.
Ensures underlying infrastructure supports software architecture security and performance requirements for high volume complex data exchanges.
Leverages unique Command, Control, Communications, and cyber expertise across all disciplines to implement integrated cloud, data, cybersecurity, and sustainment strategies.

- Travel and relocation expenses, if approved, will be paid IAW JTR and AFMAN 36-606.
- This is a cybersecurity position. The employee must maintain the appropriate DoD approved cybersecurity baseline Certificate(s) applicable for cybersecurity functions for the DoD position held, within six months of filling the position, IAW DoD 8140.
- A certification in Data Science is highly desirable.
- Completion of Professional Military Education (PME) - Intermediate Developmental Education (IDE) or Joint Professional Military Education I (JPME I) is highly desirable.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or other Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree with requisite courses are required to qualify as a 1550 computer scientist.
- Travel by regularly scheduled passenger, military, or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments may be required.
- Work hours other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays may be required
Qualifications
You may qualify at the NH-03 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-02/GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:
Applying complex IT system design principles and agile software development practices (i.e. cloud migration, integration techniques, and other methods as directed in government policies)
Analyzing on premise legacy systems and recommending actions on migration to a cloud environment
Utilizing DevSecOps practices, tools, and methodologies
Providing leadership to a team, to include team formation and execution of tasks
Presenting technical concepts, both orally and in writing, to senior military, government, and civilian officials
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1550, series as listed below:
At least a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
