The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.

Qualifications
All applicants must meet the below Basic Requirement. In addition to meeting basic requirements applicants must meet the below specialized experience or the education substitution for each grade level as listed below.
Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
GS-07: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience at this level includes:
Researching and analyzing information from a variety of sources such as, programs, case studies, and/or policies to draw conclusions and write reports; AND
Writing informational reports that reflect statements of fact rather than opinion.
OR
1 year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement
GS-09: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience at this level includes:
Researching and analyzing information from a variety of sources such as, programs, case studies, and/or policies to draw conclusions and write reports;
Writing informational reports that reflect statements of fact rather than opinion; AND
Giving informal briefings in a business setting.
OR
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
A combination of the above-defined education and experience which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
NOTE: If you are selected for an interview, a writing exercise may be administered as part of the interview process.
Education
All applicants must meet this requirement:
Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.
OR
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
- A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
- Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
