About the Position: This position is located with the US Army Installation Command, US Army Garrison, Fort Riley Directorate of Human Resources, Army Substance Abuse Program Division at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Duties

Work under the general supervision of the Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) Branch Chief (first line), or the Alcohol and Drug Control Manager (senior). Conduct assigned responsibilities independently within guidelines provided by Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA), HQ Installation Management Command (IMCOM), and local policies, precedents and procedures. Develop and administer an installation-wide ASAP prevention and education program to include goals, objectives, and milestones for military. Plan curriculum and administers ASAP Training Program and campaigns as directed by IMCOM Army Resilience Directorate. Develop and conduct public and community awareness programs. Provide input to the overall ASAP budget and manpower requirements. Provide Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Training (ADAPT) using the Prime for Life curriculum. Coordinate items for release to the news media/public affairs; bulletins; fliers; newsletters, etc., including audio and visual presentations. Design special courses in response to identified ASAP trends and needs of the installation to include counternarcotics focused training. Serve as advisor to unit commanders on matters pertaining to drug and alcohol prevention/education. Develop and conduct leadership training programs in alcohol and drug abuse for troop commanders, platoon leaders, and senior Non-Commissioned Officers.

Basic Requirement for Prevention Coordinator: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Social Work or Counseling. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing prevention training plans and curriculum; developing substance abuse classes for various audiences; and advising customers on matters pertaining to drug and alcohol prevention/education. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Social Work or Counseling. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
