Duties

Manage live-fire training, range safety, and operations, provide guidance and advice to Commanders regarding range and training safety programs. Plan and advise on new or revised policies, objectives, programs, technological and equipment advances pertaining to weapons, ammunition and, training facilities. Review and analyze all schedules requiring the use of range training requirements. Resolve issues pertaining to live-fire training, range safety and operations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • A current State or Federal OF346 driver's license is required; must be able to operate both a four-wheel drive vehicle with standard transmission and an off-road all-terrain vehicle.
  • Must be able to attend and successfully complete appropriate Range Operations Professional Development courses (ROPD) per TC25-8 / Chapter 4 and 5 guidelines within the first year of employment or as scheduling and funding allow.
  • Rotation between major training areas, shift work, rotating shifts and weekends/federal holiday work and overtime may be required.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
