Duties

You will receive work orders, oral instructions and direction from your immediate supervisor for the installation, repair or modification of pertinent components. You will use the American Welding Society standard welding symbols and related trade processes to completed assigned work. You will use prepared clamps, fixtures or jigs to assemble materials or parts for welding.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • May require the ability to obtain licenses for the operation of Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG) and/or construction equipment, upon notification.
  • May be required to obtain special certification or licensing to perform the work or to use specialized tools and/or equipment if assigned work would need this.
  • May be required to obtain welding and medical gas certification(s).
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a WELDER WORKER without more than normal supervision performing the following: 1. Reading blue prints and sketches to prepare and set up parts and/or surfaces to be welded. 2. Operating various electric resistance welding machines or use one or more manual welding processes (e.g., oxyacetylene or oxyhydrogen gas or gas carbon-arc or gas metal arc) to fabricate or repair common metal parts assemblies or components of equipment, containers, structures or facilities. 3. Performing all types of basic welding and brazing, soldering and cutting. 4. Positioning and control the torch or arc and feed welding rod or electrode to obtain weld bead size required, penetration desired and prevent burning base metal while welding common, similar metals of varying size, shape and thickness to loose tolerances.
