This position is located in the Department of Labor (DOL), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Office of Publications and Special Studies (OPUBSS), Division of Information and Marketing Services (DIMS). The Bureau of Labor Statistics measures labor market activity, working conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to support public and private decision making. This position is inside the bargaining unit.

Duties

For the Management and Program Analyst, GS 07, duties include but are not limited to the following: Support the agency by providing marketing and editorial services for public information materials; create promotional and educational materials for the BLS Classroom webpage describing economic data; make suggestions for improvements to marketing materials; develop new content to explain economic principles for outreach campaigns. Staff exhibits, programs, and seminars for BLS customers to promote data, products, and services; prepare reports for exhibitions, identify appropriate handouts and materials to showcase based on the expected audience. Participate in BLS outreach and marketing activities, inform the public and press about BLS data; initiate contacts, build and maintain relationships with data users from the media, community and economic development arenas, government, and education. Conduct studies of programs, functions, and work processes that are common to organizations, such as delegations of authority, routing of correspondence, work procedures, workload data, and storage of files and records. Advise management on a variety of opportunities and options to increase organizational effectiveness. Gather and review statistical data related to program or management activities. Prepare reports for the supervisor on study findings and recommendations. Recommend changes that meet agency initiatives and program goals, while ensuring compliance with current policy. Works with management, program leads, and other analysts to ensure that information gathered is complete and technically accurate. Conduct research of specific programs or issues and collect and analyze relevant statistics and data. Conduct preliminary analyses and advises on the organization, methods, and procedures for providing administrative support matters such as records, communications, directives, forms, files, and documentation. Assist in organizational analysis and review, position management and control, and/or productivity improvement.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Candidate required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
  • Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.

Qualifications

For the GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; OR one full year of graduate level education; OR an appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience; OR Superior Academic Achievement (go to this site determine if you are eligible: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp). Examples of specialized experience are: Gathered and analyzed data from various sources to support management decision making; Experience with analytical and evaluative methods and techniques in order to improve organizational effectiveness and efficiency; Carried out administrative and support processes to meet unit needs; Used automated databases and software to produce reports and record information; Developed marketing materials and campaigns; Managed and hosted special events, conferences, and meetings.
