You will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist in the Compliance and Quality Department, Safety and Occupational Health Division of FLTREADCEN EAST.

Duties

You will analyze accident and injury reports to discover trends and mishap causes. You will direct the investigation of accidents and analysis of precipitating factors and accident cause data to develop specific methods for prevention. You will advise personnel of safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes You will certify work environments where local guidelines or standards require validation that specific and predetermined safeguards or practices are present prior to work beginning. You will oversee safety programs in highly complex industrial aircraft repair environment. You will perform building inspections, documenting hazards and recommending abatements. You will communicate with plant managers, supervisors and aviation maintenance professionals to ensure that safety training is completed and understood. You will review Industrial Hygiene Surveys and Job Hazard Analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying knowledge of administrative rules, procedures and operations to perform administrative support functions, including customer service assistance, maintaining appointment calendar, file maintenance and related clerical work; 2) Using word processing and spreadsheet programs to prepare, format and proofread correspondence, forms, briefing, messages and/or reports; 3) Maintaining a document filing system procedure to archive documents; and 4) Coordinating with others in resolving questions and providing data to support the program. Examples of specialized experience: Managing safety or occupational health program elements. Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.
