You will serve as a RANGE SAFETY OFFICER in the G-3 Operations and Training Directorate of OFFICE OF THE COMMANDING GENERAL.

Duties

You will serve as a communication conduit between units operating within a range complex and emergency response agencies. You will coordinate real time scheduling and authorized use of firing ranges, training facilities, maneuver areas, and special use airspace. You will control airspace of range training areas by utilizing knowledge of aircraft performance parameters (i.e. airspeed, altitude, etc.) to ensure safety of combat training and readiness events. You will coordinate with local and regional FAA entities to support special use airspace aviation operations. You will follow policies, principles and procedures regarding de-conflict combat readiness events. You will analyze land use plans to determine how they apply or affect requirements and programs within the range training area. You will execute real time scheduling to ensure availability of firing ranges, training facility, maneuver areas and special use airspace for training operations.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting or contributing to the Risk Management process; Providing determinations or guidance as to the types of Special Use Airspace; Processing and approving of range requests; AND providing real-time control of approved range activities. Education

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify for the GS-11 position based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education as follows:

Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

OR

Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

OR

OR

Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

Your percentage of the required education plus your percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
