Duties

Career-Seasonal: This position is designated as Career-Seasonal. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. In this position you will work from approximately March through November, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year unless other work exists that can be assigned to during this period. Though non-pay time may be reduced, you will still be placed in non-pay status for a minimum of 2 weeks each year in accordance with NPS policy. Duties: The position of Wood Crafter at Rocky Mountain National Park will be responsible for performing journeyman-level woodworking tasks associated with the design, construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of signs, interpretive displays, cabinets, plaques, and name plates throughout the front and backcountry of the park. This position will also be responsible for passing on instructions from the supervisor, ensuring that work tasks are properly assigned to other staff members, and demonstrating proper work methods/skills. The incumbent will assist the supervisor in short and long range planning, coordinating, scheduling, and administration of the park's sign inventory maintenance program. The Trails Program Supervisor will directly supervise this position.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to Do the Work Without more than Normal Supervision to include: Plan, construct, maintain, repair, and install routed wood, vinyl, and laminate signs and natural log and milled signposts. Provide operational, logistical, and production support of sign/wayside maintenance and (re)construction projects including the assignment and distribution of work to other employees. Inspect the work of others in the construction and maintenance or front and back-country signs. Design and construct templates and patterns (as necessary) for a particular job including inlays, miniature parts, matched panels and contours, and complex joints.. (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment, Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices Ability to interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Knowledge of Materials Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
