Qualifications
NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as evaluating and adjudicating background investigations in accordance with OPM Adjudication Guidelines; advising on security policy and procedures; and working with processes and systems governing personnel security.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of laws, Executive Orders, and OPM guidelines concerning personnel security; 2) Ability to collect and organize information and apply established security standards; 3) Skill in analyzing information related to background investigations and applicable security standards; 4) Skill in written communication; 5) Ability to collect documents and information, discuss investigations with personnel, and related activities concerned with derogatory information provided in forms and paperwork; 6) Knowledge of security program interrelationships to identify and make recommendations to resolve security issues and to help with development and implementation plans and instructions; 7) Knowledge of and some experience using security information technology tools; 8) Skill in using databases to gather information and conduct research; 9) Ability to meet timelines; 10) Ability to articulate technical information to non-technical audiences; 11) Skill in creating business documents and other materials.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
