About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 66 military processing locations Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.

Duties

Works closely with joint service military and civilians. Daily operational responsibilities include understanding governing orders and procedures and providing clarifying guidance and policy to the Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS). Develops and delivers medical briefings in support of USMEPCOM policy. Coordinates with Medical Directorate, MEPS Chief Medical Officers (CMO) and MEPS Medical NCOIC/Supervisory Medical Technician. Ensures adherence to established standards, policies, and procedures. Assists with the analysis of medical trends and issues that warrant development and implementation of training programs for USMEPCOM personnel.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Administration/Management, Healthcare Administration/Management, or Public Health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS 11: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) performing administrate duties for a medical organization; 2) Analyzing internal policies, procedures, and/or regulations for a medical organization; 3) assisting with training and/or development of medical staff and/or personnel; AND 4) assisting with answering questions and/or resolving applicant case management problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Administration/Management, Healthcare Administration/Management, or Public Health. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
