This position is located in the Veterans Administration (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Assistant Director, Office of the Director, Asheville, North Carolina. The incumbent works directly for the Assistant Director, who reports to the Executive Director, Western North Carolina VA Healthcare System (WNCVAHCS).

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/28/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-8 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the Federal Service to qualify for the GS-8 position. Specialized experience is defined as clerical and administrative experience related to secretarial support for a large organization and/or in a large medical center setting. Examples may include but are not limited to: organize the work of an Executive Office Setting and perform clerical and administrative duties; receive all correspondence; prepare travel arrangements; maintain executive schedule/calendar; meeting minutes; perform full range of secretarial and administrative duties. Preferred Experience: Highly Qualified Applicants will have prior experience working within an Executive Office setting. Applicants with this specific level of experience will be given first consideration for referral to the hiring manager.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work requires sitting, walking, standing bending and carrying of light items such as papers, binders and books. The environment can be noisy and stressful at times. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
