This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Care Network (VISN 6), Charles George VA Medical Center (CGVAMC), Asheville, in the office of the Medical Center Director.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Maintain the strictest confidentiality of the Executive Office business and correspondence. Has regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive data, which must be protected under the provisions· of the Privacy Act and other applicable policies and regulations.
Display a comprehensive knowledge of the Department of Veterans Affairs organizational structure with the ability to recognize officials by position, title and name. Applies knowledge in interpreting the significance and relevance to medical center issues and activities.
Respond to inquiries and administrative problems brought to the Associate Director by members of the staff and officials of the agency's network office, state and local governments, other hospitals and organizations, as well as other federal agencies and congressional staff.
Interact daily with patients and visitors by telephone, personal contact and through correspondence written to the attention of the Associate Medical Center Director or Medical Center Director.
Receive all correspondence for the Associate Director, responding to mail not requiring the Associate Medical Center Director's attention and routing matters requiring action by administrative service chiefs and follows up to ensure that actions are completed.
Provides guidance and assistance to facility secretarial staff in Interpreting and applying medical center policies relating to office administration and correspondence control.
Screen all correspondence prepared for the Associate Medical Center Director and Director's signatures for clarity, completeness of reply, grammatical and procedural correctness. Returns inadequate submissions for retyping or re-composition.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:30pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/02/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Selective Placement Factor: Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of administrative principles, methods, practices and techniques, and skill in applying such knowledge. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals. Knowledge of the Associate Medical Center Director's responsibilities, priorities, commitments, policies, goals and objectives to perform assignments. Knowledge of VA travel regulations and restrictions to be followed in advising and instructing subordinate secretaries or other staff. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, report and correspondence formats. Knowledge of rules and regulations with regards to training and TEMPO. Knowledge of timekeeping rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements: he work is basically sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
