About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Cold Regions Research Engineer Lab (CRREL). GS 5: $44,709 - $58,118 GS 6: $49,838 - $64,792 GS 7: $55,383 - $71,999 GS 8: $61,333 - $79,731 GS 9: $67,743 - $88,065 GS 10: $74,600 - $96,977

Duties

Develops preliminary and final details of multi-discipline engineering features for a wide variety of civil works. Takes conceptual layouts prepared by engineers and creates the necessary details, dimensions and materials required to construct, operate and maintain the equipment or feature. Makes modification to civil works features relating to various navigation, flood control, and environmental projects where overall design is the responsibility of a higher graded engineer. Reviews plans prepared by architect engineer firms for items such as dam and levee embankments, pump stations, navigation structures, flood closure structures, floodwalls, channels, roads, parking lots, drainage structures, relief well systems, etc. Uses Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to develop both preliminary and final engineering features for navigation and flood control projects. Is thoroughly versed in the use of the CAD system and is able to develop new user commands to meet unique design requirements.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Minimum Qualifications GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing preliminary plans, models, and/or details for engineering/construction projects; and identifying errors, inconsistencies, and/or deficiencies within the design process. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Minimum Qualifications GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing draft plans, models, and/or details from templates for engineering/construction projects; and computing quantities of earthwork and/or construction materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Minimum Qualifications GS-08: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing final plans, models, and details from templates for engineering/construction projects; and computing quantities of earthwork and/or construction materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. Minimum Qualifications GS-10: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing final plans, models, and/or details for engineering/construction projects to ensure compliance with CAD standards; producing quantity take offs for complex engineering projects; developing CAD resources such as Macros, Feature Definitions, Drawing Seeds, etc.; and providing instruction and/or recommending corrective actions for technical problems associated with the CAD software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job at the GS-10 grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
