Duties

You will serve as a Welder in the Production Department, Engines Product Division of the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC). You will weld on all types of metals in various sizes and shapes including structural forms, plate, castings, forgings, sheet metal, machinery and equipment in the fabrication, assembly and repair of ships. You will weld on ordnance equipment, tools, dies, fixtures and other items. You will set-up, adjust, and operate various manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding equipment. You will control interpass temperature, inspect joint geometry and fit up, operate portable grinding and finishing equipment, and accomplish inspections and required documentation. You will select proper size and type of filler material, oxy-fuel gas mixtures, flux and shielding gas mixtures for items to be welded. You will determine that the work area is safe for hot work, instruct and position firewatchers, and protect areas/equipment that is subject to damage from the process utilized. You will set-up inert gas purges and operate purge gas analyzers and control equipment. You will select proper welding sequence and specified joint design.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
