The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Greater LA VA Medical Center Nursing Department. As the Program Support Assistant (OA) will initiate, coordinate manage and assist the Chief Nurse, Education, Dialysis along with the Administrative Officer (AO) in the running, organization and maintaining of the complex and diverse activities related to the administration of the Nursing Service Education &/or Dialysis Department.
Duties
Act as a liaison between the Chief Nurse, and payroll section supervisors and employees on time management and in resolving employee payroll discrepancies.
Monitor schedules daily for scheduling changes, posts changes daily. Meets with nurse managers routinely to assure that postings are accurate.
Participate in the development of policy in administrative areas by researching prior publications, regulations, and recommending new policies and/or changes.
Provide briefings on administrative topics; schedules events/meetings as necessary.
Collect data for the service's operating budget, sets up controls to monitor expenses during the year; and recommends budget adjustments.
Receive and review regulations, directives and memoranda on administrative functions.
Utilize VA office automation hardware and software systems to perform the duties of the position relating to budget and financial management, acquisition and property management, resources, travel and payroll.
Utilize automated record keeping and automated databases.
Receive, refer, and communicate with members of the staff, agency, and persons outside the agency ranging from other government agencies to the public.
Provide general clerical public contact support services such as answering the telephone, referring visitors, or providing information about the office, its functions, and standard operating procedures, as well as similar information.
Review regulations, procedures and processes governing administrative management functions and the organization's structure and functions.

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. The work is generally performed in an office setting.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

GS-06 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Do you possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience (equivalent to at least the GS-05 level or pay band in the Federal service) that includes assisting with the collection, compilation, and/or tracking of data and statistical information; tracking and reporting annually of training status for trainees' information including auditing of schedules, class rosters.GS-07
GS-07 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Do you possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience (equivalent to at least the GS-06 level or pay and in the Federal service) that includes assisting with the collection, compilation, and/or tracking of data and statistical information; tracking and reporting annually of training status for trainees information including auditing of schedules, class rosters AND organizing and maintaining the administration of the Nursing service education to include orientation, career development courses and support.
***There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 or GS-07 grade level.
