About the Position: This position serves as a U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center (USACRC) technical specialist in the area of digital information networking, communications, and infrastructure, located at Fort Novosel, AL.

Duties

Serve as a technical specialist in the area of digital information networking, communications, and infrastructure. Primarily responsible for the daily operations, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining USACRC user Information Technology (IT) equipment and software. Serve as a technical assistant on requirements for the information infrastructure (hardware, software, and training). Identify problems and specific issues in the area of LAN and communication systems to help determine nature of requirements, logical work and information flows and whether feasible for automation processes. Attends meetings with vendors, contractors, and other government agencies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may require temporary duty (TDY) travel a minimum of 10% of the time.
  • This position is designated as sensitive IT-I for Information Technology purposes.
  • The employee must possess or be able to acquire Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level I DoD approved certification(s) within six months of assignment to position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves operating, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and/or maintaining user Information Technology (IT) equipment, software and applications; applying information security policies for user information technology equipment, cellular devices, software and applications; analyzing and defining relationships between Wide Area Networks, and Local Area Networks (LAN), including developing and implementing Security Zones; supporting technical evaluations of existing systems and makes suggestions for improvements, changes, additions, or deletions to those systems; and provides training to system users on new or updated operating systems, hardware, software, to include security policies and guidelinesAND possess IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: completing thorough and accurate work independently, even in the most difficult or stressful situations; occasionally reviewing work completed by others; 2. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: convincingly conveying complex information to customers; presenting thoughts that are well-organized and demonstrating confidence in the facts and ideas; adjusting style when working with individuals with different levels of understanding; using various methods to explain and convey information; and 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: solving complex or sensitive problems by developing and proposing strategic alternatives; identifying possible conflicts and shared benefits; helping team anticipate problems and identifying and evaluating potential sources of information; providing feedback and coaching to others to help solve problems; engaging appropriate stakeholders when developing solutions in order to understand and incorporate multiple perspectives and needs; evaluating the effectiveness of decisions and adjusting future decisions as appropriate.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Information Technology Customer SupportNetwork OperationOperating SystemsSystem Administration Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
