You will serve as a COMPUTER SCIENTIST in the OCEANOGRAPHIC DEPARTMENT (NP3), PHYSICAL OCEANOGRAPHY DIVISION (NP31), OCEAN DATABASES BRANCH (NP311) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
This announcement uses the OPM Federal Wide direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will provide software and life cycle maintenance of various Quality Control (QC) software applications.
You will conceptualize, coordinate development, implementation, and documentation of new or changes to existing QC and database oceanographic processes.
You will participate in at-sea oceanographic operations.
You will ensure that all physical oceanographic data are collected properly and that all appropriate quality control procedures are observed and properly applied by the survey team.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
In addition to the Basic Education Requirements, Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
*Experience utilizing theories, principles, and techniques of computer science and science related functions such as oceanography, hydrography, databasing, image processing and geographic information systems.
*Experience utilizing design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of software systems to transform information. *Experience applying concepts and procedures involved in configuration management of software developed and maintained for departments.
*Experience applying computer programming within Windows and LINUX for data collection, processing, and analyses.
