This position is part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Security Specialist, you will provide technical support in Department of Energy's (DOE) policy development, analysis and promulgation for safeguards and security topical areas. Assist the field, Headquarters Program Offices, and other Government agencies by providing policy interpretation, advice, and guidance on the Department's safeguards and security policy.

- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Obtain and maintain a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required security clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- The incumbent is required to complete an initial Counterintelligence (CI) evaluation and on a recurring basis, which may include a CI-scope polygraph examination.
- You are required to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of entering the position and annually.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- This position does not support 100% remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 2 days per pay period.
- A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work. Current Federal employees or other individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check.
- This position is not included in a Bargaining Unit.
- This position has been designated as Special-Sensitive (High Risk) and requires a security clearance at the Q level. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
Analyzing security policies and procedures to determine compliance and efficiency and develop and implement corrective actions to achieve compliance and maximize efficiency.
Identify and analyze security infractions and violations to determine cause and impact and implement corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Providing security briefings/expert consultations to senior management on best practices and methods for implementing department element wide guidance.
Identifying funding and resource requirements needed to support security programs and functions for the organization.
Operate government information technology systems for processing Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) personal identification badges, security clearances, and foreign national visitors.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
