About the Position: Serve as the Principal Staff Advisor for the Brigade's Safety Program (a comprehensive 24-hour a day program), to include serving as the Brigade Commander's technical advisor/consultant for safety issues. The duties and responsibilities of this position require or authorize the individual to formulate, determine, or influence the policies and to formulate, develop, organize, execute, and assess the Brigade safety program.

Duties

Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for a Brigade. Ensure proper accident notification and investigation procedures are followed. Provide technical guidance and advice for environmental, radiation, live fire training, base operations, construction plan review. Provide technical guidance and ensures compliance with established safety criteria. Serve as the Brigade Commander’s technical expert to identify, analyze, and provide risk management control measures for life-threatening hazards. Provide technical guidance during the operations planning process to ensure the integration of safety risk management. Deploy with Area of Operation units and other operations as tasked by higher headquarters. Develop Area of Operations safety policies, procedures, plans, and regulations to ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • This position will be required to pass a military standard physical examination. A pre-appointment physical examination is required.
  • The military ACU is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environments). Incumbent will be issued standard TA-50 for use per local requirements.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours.
  • May be required to perform TDY up to 50% of the time on an annual basis.
  • Must be able to meet weapons qualifications requirements.
  • Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty at field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
  • Must pass a medical examination and receive required immunizations for the overseas/deployed location.
  • Designated Emergency Essential Position: This position is considered essential to support Army's mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization.
  • A physical examination for deployment is required.
  • Anthrax inoculation program participation may be required to meet deployability requirements.
  • Must complete all required training and achieve the CP-12 Level 1 and Explosives Safety Level 1 professional certificates within 12 months, or prior to deployment, as outlined in the 0018 job series Master Training Plan.
  • Continuous education and training is required.
