About the Position: The Safety and Occupational Health Manager will work in the Headquarters, I Corps and JBLM Safety Office located at JBLM, Washington. This emergency essential and deployable position will serve as the principal Safety and Occupational Health Director over the III Corps Safety Program including assigned and attached active components and war-fighting units. This position is a TERM appointment NTE 13 months.

Duties

The Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Manager serves on the Commander's personal staff and exercises primary responsibility for the Corps Safety Program serving as technical safety advisor/consultant to the Commander and senior leaders. Direct the preparation and publication of safety plans, regulations, statistical analyses/studies, awards programs, and special projects to execute the safety program. Utilize safety and composite risk management (CRM) concepts in tactical operations and develops courses of action to ensure safety and risk management procedures are a part of mission analysis. Coordinate with key officials of the military services and host nation/foreign agencies, when deployed in peacetime and war conditions to CONUS or OCONUS locations worldwide in planning and instituting training operations and safety program efforts. Act as senior safety coordinator to staff elements on the planning and conduct of major training exercises and as staff advisor for the Corps on all accident prevention matters. Serve as Corps Career Program Manager for Career Program 12 and exercises the full range of delegated personnel management responsibilities performed by a first line supervisor.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. You may also be required to be on-call.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain this licenses while employed.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • This is an obligated position which an employee has statutory restoration rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 50% of the time.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Incumbent is required to complete a pre-employment physical due to the requirement for heavy lifting.
  • Employee may be required to deploy with assigned unit for periods up 365 days and will be required to pass a military standard physical examination.
  • Incumbent will be issued and be required to wear a military uniform while deployed.
  • Incumbent must be able to meet weapons qualifications requirements.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period may be required to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
