You will serve as a Non-Destructive Test Inspector in the Nondestructive Test Division (Code 135), Quality Management Office (Code 130) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will analyze composite materials to determine the correct testing and inspection processes. You will determine which materials and equipment should be used to meet daily or project requirements for nondestructive testing (NDT). You will recognize and select material needed for assigned nondestructive testing (NDT) tasks. You will conduct ultrasonic inspections (UT) of plates, pipe, tubing, structural shapes, and weldments. You will inspect welds or materials using visual testing (VT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), magnetic particle testing (MT), ultrasonic testing (UT), or eddy current testing (ET) to determine the integrity of products. You will calibrate instruments used for nondestructive testing (NDT) by adjusting settings or programs You will make adjustments and calibrations to nondestructive testing (NDT) equipment. You will use x-ray machines to perform radiographic inspection. You will need to be a highly skilled and certified NDT specialist in accordance with the American Society for Nondestructive Testing Recommended Practice SNT TS 1A. You will be required to obtain/keep qualifications and certifications through periodic examinations by authorized NAVSEA reps in accordance with the requirements of NAVSEA T9074-AS-GIB-010/271, NAVSEA 250-1500 1, MIL-STD-2132, NAVSEA 0989 030-0700.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSPECT WG-13: Experience independently performing complex nondestructive testing and analysis on complex and non-routine mechanical components, piping systems, and structural assemblies related to Naval surface ships and submarines and nuclear propulsion plants to determine structural integrity of the items. Experience using a wide variety of intricate inspection equipment and technologies in the fields of Manuel and Automated Ultrasonic Testing (UT), X-Ray and Isotope (Gamma), Radiographic Testing (RT), and Eddy Current Heat Exchanger Tubing Testing (ET) inspection methods. As well as performing inspections using Liquid Testing (PT), and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) inspections methods. Experience conducting radiographic operations and/or serving as Radiographer-in-Charge (RIC) for nuclear and non-nuclear radiographic inspections as well as being responsible for ensuring that radioisotopes are safely handles and reading radiographic films. Performs eddy current inspections using bobbin probes to inspect main, auxiliary, and air ejector condenser tubes, reboiler, and other heat exchanger tubing on both nuclear and non-nuclear vessels for steam impingement, pitting, exfoliation, corrosion, and other wall thickness variations. Experience with NDT methods and procedures to verify work perfomed by various trades (i.e. welder, shipfitter, pipefitter, machinist) complies with all applicable specifications and requirements. WG-12: Experience conducting Visual/dimension inspections on prepared and fit-up surfaces, including verification of materials and/ or material compatibility. Experience conducting Magnetic Particle Inspections on ferromagnetic components of non-nuclear machinery, piping and/ or structural systems to detect surface/subsurface flaws. Experience conducting liquid penetrate inspections to detect surface flaws for acceptable/ rejectable conditions. Experience conducting eddy current (ET) inspections on ferrous and non-ferrous materials for acceptable/rejectable conditions. Experience conducting destructive metallographic inspections of non-nuclear weldments and/or base materials for welding procedure qualifications, welder performance, and weld technique development. Experience analyzing radiographic films (RT) of non-nuclear piping, machinery and structural for acceptable/rejectable conditions. Experience conducting a variety of ultra-sonic inspections on nuclear/non-nuclear piping, mechanical systems and/or structures for acceptable/rejectable conditions.
