You will serve as a NONDESTRUCTIVE TEST INSP in the Non-Destructive Test Division (Code 135), Quality Management Shop (Code 130) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will analyze composite materials to determine the correct testing and inspection processes. You will determine which materials and equipment should be used to meet daily or project requirements for nondestructive testing (NDT). You will recognize and select material needed for assigned nondestructive testing (NDT) tasks. You will conduct ultrasonic inspections (UT) of plates, pipe, tubing, structural shapes, and weldments. You will inspect welds or materials using visual testing (VT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), magnetic particle testing (MT), ultrasonic testing (UT), or eddy current testing (ET) to determine the integrity of products. You will calibrate instruments used for nondestructive testing (NDT) by adjusting settings or programs. You will make adjustments and calibrations to nondestructive testing (NDT) equipment. You will use x-ray machines to perform radiographic inspection.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position.
  • Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • The incumbent must pass a radiation physical and maintain radiation worker qualifications.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an IT-II designation.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Position required Travel Worldwide at which time additional medical screening may be required.
  • This position requires rotating shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed.
  • This position may require occasional travel.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision such as: Conduct Visual/dimension inspections on prepared and fit-up surfaces, including verification of materials and/ or material compatibility. Conduct Magnetic Particle Inspections on ferromagnetic components of non-nuclear machinery, piping and/ or structural systems to detect surface/subsurface flaws. Conduct liquid penetrate inspections to detect surface flaws for acceptable/ rejectable conditions. Conduct radiographic operations and/ or serves as Radiographer in Charge (RIC) for inspections of non-nuclear piping, machinery and for structures for acceptable/rejectable conditions. Conduct eddy current inspections on ferrous and non-ferrous materials for acceptable/rejectable conditions. Conduct destructive metallographic inspections of non-nuclear weldments and/or base materials for welding procedure qualifications, welder performance, and weld technique development. Analyze radiographic films of non-nuclear piping, machinery and structural for acceptable/rejectable conditions. Conduct a variety of ultra-sonic inspections on nuclear/non-nuclear piping, mechanical systems and/or structures for acceptable/rejectable conditions. Verify that work performed by various trades (i.e. Welders, Shipfitter, Pipefitter, Machinist) complies with all applicable specifications and/or requirements. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.
