The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist responsible for base level assistance in the maintenance of the installation's computer network. Providing technical assistance, training, and support to customers and prioritizing Wing Senior Leadership IT calls.
Duties
Administer the base local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN)
Ensures the rigorous application of information security/ information assurance policies, principles, and practices.
Solves problems associated with individual hardware or software deliveries while providing customer support, assistance, training, and orientation.
Resolves, responds to, customer requests for information technology services or problems in the most efficient and effective manner.
Maintains, configures, and support unit issued mobile devices eg Apple I phones, Ipads/ Tabblets, air cards and all other personal wireless cellural devices.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/ or shift work may be required which may include overtime and or irregular hours.
- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate drivers license is required for the position.
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position under the Air Force civilian Drug demand reduction program.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force national security and public safety.
Qualifications
This is a target position with known promotion potential to the full performance grade of GS-11. Selection can be made at any grade for which determined qualified. May be non-competitively promoted to the interim or target grade, subject to meeting eligibility/qualification requirements, at management's discretion.

GS 09: EDUCATION: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
OR
Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes experience in; Applying principles, concepts, and theories of the classified title, and the standard practices, methods and techniques of the occupation sufficient to perform difficult, but well-presented assignments. Ensure analysis, evaluation, fact-finding and investigative techniques in order to gather date, identify significant factors, and recommend a solution from a number of possible alternatives.
GS-09 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Knowledge of basic principles of the classified titled or related field.
Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing.
Ability to learn basic techniques of the classified title.
Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.
Ability to plan and organize work, and consult effectively with co-workers
GS-11: EDUCATION: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes Appling IT network systems design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in planning, developing, testing, installing, operating, administering, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements. Ensure the organizations network architecture, topology, and protocols sufficient to plan, design, develop, and integrate network systems consistent with existing or planned network infrastructure
GS-11 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
1. Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintain network services that support functional requirements.
2. Knowledge of customer-support principals, methods, and procedures for documenting problem resolutions and providing guidance and training to customers.
3. Knowledge and skill in one or more of the following areas: (1) computer operating systems (Unix, Windows, etc.) enterprise services, file systems, security, configuration and analysis; (2) network operations and security including network data flows, protocols, PCAP, etc.; (3) computer programming and scripting; (4) malware identification and analysis; (5) system forensics.
4. Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations; as well as in identifying, analyzing, articulating, and executing program goals and objectives, work processes, and administrative operations of the organization in support of major issues and operational challenges.
5. Skill in developing new or modified work methods, processes, or information protection procedures; and ability to develop and articulate technical direction and approaches to formulating interoperability plans, implementation.
6. plans, and contingency plans involving communications and connectivity between major command
and control systems.
7. Ability to clearly and effectively discuss and present program objectives, managerial tasks, and technical information verbally and in writing to management and professional personnel at all
levels within DoD and other government agencies within timelines prescribed by regulation or management.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS- 09 level. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS- 11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
