About the Position: Serve as Supervisor, Specimen Processing Branch of the Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Laboratory (FTDTL). Manage a staff of Specimen Controllers and Forensic Support Technicians and work under general administrative supervision and reports to the Deputy Commander. Exercise a high degree of initiative and independent, professional judgment to perform a wide variety of procedures while processing the receipt and movement of specimens.

Duties

Assign work to subordinates based upon priorities; uses selective considerations such as project difficulty and requirements and the capability of employees. Establish and monitor subordinate performance standards, counsel employees as required, evaluate performance and takes appropriate performance based action as appropriate. Serve as an expert resource for laboratory management officials and professional staff such as attorneys on matters related to the receipt, documentation and storage of specimens in the processing section of the laboratory. Perform technician tasks such as receiving, logging, securing, and tracking urine specimens collected for testing for drugs of abuse. Ensure safety procedures are adhered to and protective equipment and clothing (e.g., gloves, eye, and clothing protection) are worn in the laboratory. Responsible for coordinating preparation of specimen bottles to be shipped to other laboratories for specialized testing.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 5% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be/are required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug testing.
  • This position requires a one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties unless previously completed.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. A candidate selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Chemistry, Biology, or Forensic Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
